EOPYY: Multi-million euro fraud involving illegal prescriptions

Extensive inspections by EOPYY for illegal prescriptions are underway.

According to data from the Directorate of Pharmaceuticals, 32 doctors and 62 pharmacies are involved in an illegal prescription network, and the Organisation has imposed fines.

The issue was discussed during an EOPYY meeting held on 6 November at the Organisation’s headquarters, the details of which became known yesterday (18/11).

Specifically, the Directorate of Pharmaceuticals presented the results of October’s compliance checks:
32 doctors and 62 pharmacies were audited, with the estimated financial damage amounting to approximately €12 million, and fines totalling €98,500 were imposed.

It was also disclosed that further inspections will follow for 10 doctors and 80 pharmacies based on three case files from the Financial Police that have been forwarded to the Organisation.
