Barak: The Trump administration wants to act as a “bridge” between Greece and Turkey
The US ambassador in Ankara, Tom Barak, emphasized that Donald Trump’s government aims to function as a “bridge” between Greece and Turkey, promoting de-escalation and dialogue.
In an interview with Kathimerini, Barak referred to a specific timeline for the reopening of the Halki Seminary in September 2026, noting that “it makes no sense for two major countries, closely linked to each other, to continue keeping disputes alive over events that occurred hundreds or even thousands of years ago.”
Referring to Kimberly Guilfoyle, he stressed that “Greece has an excellent new US ambassador,” adding that a new mode of cooperation is necessary. “We hope America can become the connecting link. That is our goal,” he stated.
